THE PROBLEM
Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas for our energy needs adds to the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and accelerates global warming.
As our oceans warm, they threaten animals that can’t adapt – like coral. Polar bears lose their ice.
Increased carbon dioxide accumulates in the ocean and makes it more acidic. This weakens and kills animals like shellfish.
Rising oceans threaten human cities and island homes, costing lives and billions of dollars when storms hit.
THE ACTION
- Ask your energy provider to source more wind and solar power. Consider solar panels if you can afford it.
- Use LED bulbs, turn down your thermostat and turn off unnecessary electrical appliances.
- Lobby the City of Tacoma to become 100% renewable.
