Plant a Tree

#plantatree

THE PROBLEM

Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas for our energy needs adds to the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and accelerates global warming.

As our oceans warm, they threaten animals that can’t adapt – like coral. Polar bears lose their ice.

Increased carbon dioxide accumulates in the ocean and makes it more acidic. This weakens and kills animals like shellfish.

If forests are cut down for farmland or development, more carbon dioxide is released into the air and ocean.

THE ACTION

  • Luckily, we have an amazing resource that absorbs carbon dioxide and generates the oxygen we breathe – TREES!
  • Get a free street tree! Cityoftacoma.org/treestreet
  • Join a group like Forterra to help plant on a bigger scale
  • Or plant a rain garden to absorb and filter pollution
