Lourdes Jackson

Sure/Shore

In Sure/Shore, artist Lourdes Jackson taps into the complex beauty of Earth’s most dominant feature, the oceans. In this epic installation, three specially-made panels are constructed with multiple layers of silk that mimic the ocean’s colorful depths and create the effect of walking towards a calm sea. Each panel is finished with a translucent top layer of silk organza that veils the imagery of human and marine life painted on the layers of silk beneath. “I resonate with the water a lot,” says Jackson, who travels frequently to Miami, where his daily regimen includes a morning dip in the Atlantic. “The relationship between ocean life and humanity has always fascinated me.”
