2022 Festival

What a fabulous festival: ocean-sized thanks to our thousands of attendees, amazing artists, performers, speakers, youth poets and filmmakers, eco-booths, scientists, food trucks, kayakers, volunteers and sponsors!

LANTERN PADDLE

Around 400 folks watched the PLU Steel Pan, Vuelta La Luna circus, Salmon is Life puppets, flutist Paul Chiyokten Wagner and 60 paddlers with lanterns of endangered species in a magical illuminated evening on the water.

BEACH CLEANUP

Around 77 folks picked up 671 lbs of trash from Chambers Bay Beach, made a whale trash mural and listened to Hula Halau Hawaiian music. Big thanks to partner South Sound Surfrider!

FESTIVAL

Over 2,000 people watched 100 performers, 3 speakers, powerful indoor art and a giant floating mural! They explored ocean science and protection at 21 eco-booths, tried kayaking, toured boats, made art, ate yummy food and had fun. Woohoo!

OCEAN FILM FEST

Three nights of amazing local and global ocean film, seen by 95 people with three powerful filmmaker Q&As. Big thanks to our partner The Grand Cinema, and all our fabulous filmmakers.

BEACHWALKS

So. Many. People! Around 90 folks explored Dash Point and Titlow beaches with marine biologists Orian Grant and Stena Troyer to find moon snails, red rock crabs and so much more low tide life!

SWAN CREEK CLEANUP

Over 55 people picked up 12 bags of trash and one car tire from the beautiful Swan Creek Park, wandering the trails to find Popup Ocean Poetry from our Youth Story winners! Thank you all, especially partners Ireta P’urhépecha, VT Radio Universal, East Tacoma Collaborative, City of Tacoma and Metro Parks CHIP-In.

ALL SUMMER LONG

We had Popup Poetry in the Park at Swan Creek, Ocean Story Trail art at Tacoma libraries, and “Washed Up” art inside the Foss Waterway Seaport museum. Spreading ocean love around our city!
