Wow – what a day! Rainy October turned into glorious sunshine as 60 paddlers hit the Foss Waterway in fabulous costumes from vies and more!
Over 610 people came to watch, do Halloween inside the Foss Waterway Seaport, hear the Filthy Femcorps brass band blasting the esplanade and generally have a super-fun time.
And 47 people wandered up and down Dock Street picking up litter in our first-ever Trash-for-Treat, getting free stickers and raffle prizes and filling our dumpster and Trashoctopus with trash. Big kudos to those souls who also picked up litter from their paddleboards and kayaks! The weirdest item? A kid’s bike frame (no wheels, though).
Finally, big congrats to our three prizewinners in the Grit City Costume Paddle Photo Contest! They were:
- “Most Artsy”: JD, with a beautiful recreation of Miguel in “Coco”!
- “Spookiest”: Star, with an elegant Dia de los Muertos skeleton!
- “Best Ocean Animal”: Zieppora and Cassandra with a fancy jellyfish and seal duo!
Photos coming soon!
Prizes were generously donated by Foss Waterway Seaport, Grit City Magazine, Foss Harbor Marina and Tacoma Ocean Fest. Kayak trip organized by Metro Parks Tacoma – thank you.
Such a great day! Save the date for Sunday Oct. 30, 2022 – and start planning your costume.
